LWVNKY is a chapter for Kentucky League members in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties.

Get involved with our new initiative:

LWVNKY is building a Campus Outreach Program at Northern Kentucky University. We will soon be interviewing for a student intern who will assist in building a team of students and planning a Get Out the Vote campaign for the May Primary.

Member Tracy Kaeff is leading this initiative but she could use some extra hands. If you enjoy working with young people, this is a great opportunity. Reach out to Tracy at tracy.kaeff@lwvky.org

Episode 5 of Democracy in Action has dropped!

In the lastest episode, Everything Voting Part 3, Louann Elliott interviews Justin Crigler, Boone County Clerk, Gabe Summe, Kenton County Clerk and Jim Luersen, Campbell County Clerk.

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION is a podcast presented by the League of Women Voters of Northern Kentucky and produced by Campbell Media.

The power of Advocacy:

In episode 1 of the Democracy in Action podcast, we talked about how Tennessee was the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment. The final Yes vote and tiebreaker was made by Rep Harry Burn after reading a note from his mother:

Dear Son,

I’ve been following the news from Nashville, and I know the decision before you is a difficult and important one. You have always tried to do what is right, and I trust your good judgment. Still, I feel I must tell you plainly: be a good boy and vote for women’s suffrage.

The women of this country have waited long enough for a voice in their government. It is only fair that we should have the same right to vote as the men whose lives we share and whose burdens we help carry. I believe strongly that supporting the amendment is the just and honorable thing to do.

Do not let the pressures around you keep you from standing for what is right. Have the courage to make the decision your conscience approves.

With love,
Mother
